Greg has signed a joint letter alongside 15 other local MPs to Kent's judiciary, calling for those found spitting or coughing at police officers to receive an immediate prison sentence.
It comes after Kent Police recorded a number of incidents where officers had been both spat and coughed at by people claiming to have coronavirus.
Greg said: “This is a very serious matter which is why we have sent a very clear message to the senior judges and magistrates in Kent that we wish to see an immediate custodial sentence for anyone who assaults our emergency workers by intentionally coughing or spitting on them in an attempt to spread - or threaten to spread - the coronavirus. Although the ultimate decision on the severity of the punishment will rest with the judiciary, we believe this letter will reflect the view of the vast majority of our constituents.”
