The W A Turner food factory which has been present on Broadwater Lane since 1970 is subject to a 45 day consultation with a view to closing it.
Greg met management of the business, owned by Birmingham-based ABP Group, as well as representatives of the 189-strong workforce, elected by the whole staff.
Greg said that W A Turner had always been a valued employer in the town and it was sad that it has been proposed to end the presence in Tunbridge Wells.
Meeting the staff, Greg said it was important that the company should live up to the good reputation it has built up over the years, and as well as paying promptly redundancy payments do everything it could to match existing employees with new jobs in the town. For many people it is some time since they applied for a job, and so the company should provide help with writing CVs and with interview techniques.
Greg said: “W A Turner has been a key employer in Tunbridge Wells for 50 years and its closure is a loss for the town. The company needs to ensure that it helps all those it employs into new jobs and promptly pays the redundancy payments it owes and I will be meeting workforce again during the weeks ahead to do what I can to see that they are treated well.”
