Greg visited the construction site of the A21 dualling to mark the decision by Highways England to fund a new cycle path that will link the centre of Tonbridge to Pembury. The route will also be able to be used by pedestrians and horseriders.
The dualling of the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury always incorporated an off-road cycle path but it did not include links at either end to Tonbridge station and Pembury hospital. These links are crucial for it to be a successful commuting route for cyclists.
Greg commented:
"I was always concerned that the proposed cycle path along part of the A21 that is currently being dualled should link to key locations at either end so I pressed Highways England to fund this. It's great news that they have agreed to do so otherwise a real opportunity would have been missed.
"Linking the centre of Tonbridge to the Pembury Hospital with a 4 mile offroad cycle path will provide an opportunity for people to use the path for getting to work or for leisure."
"Along with the current proposal to improve cycling along the A26, we now have real momentum to create a fantastic local cycle network."
In 2013, Greg held a public meeting to try to make progress on improving cycling in Tunbridge Wells. Since then, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has published its first ever Cycling Strategy.
