Greg provides an update to constituents regarding works on Major York's Road:
"A number of constituents have been in touch about the long delays that are being caused by the current work to replace the gas main on Major York's Road in Tunbridge Wells – disruption that extends along the Langton Road and Mount Ephraim. Like many residents, I have been caught in these tailbacks myself.
"I met with SGN to address the problems and put to them the points that residents have made to me and to discuss what changes can be made.
"The site is being worked on from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday and until 1pm on Saturday.
"I have agreed with SGN that they will:
- Review the phasing of the traffic lights to see if there are changes that would reduce the queues of traffic. In particular there seems to be an imbalance between the longer queues coming into Tunbridge Wells compared to the queue leaving town.
- Try to secure additional workers to extend working hours (although I was told that the next phase is the most complex from an engineering point of view and needs specialist manpower.)
- Accelerate work to reduce the current four-way traffic lights to three-way traffic lights so that the waiting times for each phase reduce.
"I have arranged to meet SGN again tomorrow (Friday) for an update on progress and I will feed this back to constituents."
