Greg has secured a commitment from developers Dandara that the company will provide jobs and apprenticeships to local people – specifically from the Sherwood community, which is adjacent to the new development.
In advance of the consideration of planning permission for the development, Greg met with the owners of the site to press them to make sure that the local people will be the first to benefit from the hundreds of jobs and training posts available.
Greg said:
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for people in Sherwood and elsewhere in Tunbridge Wells who want to learn a trade or get a good job in construction. It is vital that local people can benefit from their jobs."
In his reply to Greg, Managing Director of Dandara, Andrew Wagstaff, wrote:
"This will be a big chance for local people who work, or who would like to work, for one of the best firms in the construction industry. In practice most of the 190 or so new jobs and apprenticeships created during construction will be available to local residents. We are looking forward to working with the community in Tunbridge Wells – and Sherwood in particular – to help many local people into jobs and apprenticeships, and to give them an opportunity which will benefit them for a lifetime."
Greg said:
"The whole community will be pleased that Dandara has responded to my request and committed to seek out local people for these jobs and apprenticeships. This is a big chance for people in our community to get into a job in construction that will launch them into a lifetime successful career."
"I will be organising with Dandara, and other local employers, a Jobs Fair in Sherwood in the Spring where these opportunities will be available. I urge anyone who wants a new job or apprenticeship to come along and meet the employers."
Apprenticeships will be available with Dandara in the following trades:
- Bricklaying
- Carpentry
- Painting
- Plastering
- Tiling
